<P class=바탕글>전 세계적으로 50억 대의 휴대폰이 사용되고 있고, 휴대폰 등의 무선 통신 기기에서 나오는 고주파 전자기장에의 노출이 인체에 미치는 영향에 대한 가능성이 지난 수년간 꾸준히 제기되어 왔다. 지난 2011.3.24~3.31 전 세계 14개국 31명의 과학자들은 IARC에서 미팅을 가지고 고주파 전자기장에 노출되는 것의 잠재적인 암 유발위험에 대해 평가했다. 각국의 전문가들은 노출 데이터, 암 연구, 실험 동물에서의 암에 대한 연구, 기계공학적인 데이터를 가지고 분석하는 복잡한 임무를 함께했다.</P><br />
<P class=바탕글><br />
<P class=바탕글>evidence는 비판적으로 재검토되었고, 청신경종, 신경교종, 다른 암으로 분류되기 불충분한 종양을 가진 무선 전화 사용자로 제한되어 분석되었다. 연구 그룹은 위험요소를 정량화하지는 않았다. 하지만 과거 휴대폰 사용에 대한 한 가지 연구(2004년)는 가장 많은 양을 사용한 그룹(매일 30분, 10년 이상)에서 신경교종의 위험이 40% 증가되었음을 보여주었다.</P><br />
<P class=바탕글><br />
<P class=바탕글>연구 그룹의 수장인 Jonathan Samet 박사(서던캘리포니아 대학)는 “아직도 수집중이지만, 이미 &#8216;약간의 위험이 있을 수 있고 따라서 휴대폰과 암 위험 사이의 연관에 대해 꾸준히 감시할 필요가 있다&#8217;는 결론을 내리고 Group 2B로 분류하기에 충분할 만큼 evidence가 강력하다.”라며,</P><br />
<P class=바탕글>“이러한 분류와 결과가 공중보건에 미칠 잠재적인 영향을 고려할 때, 휴대전화를 장기적으로 많이 사용한 결과에 대한 추가적인 연구가 시행되는 것이 중요하다. 그런 정보를 얻을 때까지는 무선기기에의 노출을 줄이기 위한 실용적인 조치를 취하는 것이 중요하다.”고 밝혔다. </P><br />
