				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>유럽 고대 농민들의 가축 퇴비와 토지 집약 농업 방식</p>
<p>유럽에서 철기시대(1200 BC~400 AD) 이전인 신석기 시대에 가축 분뇨를 거름으로<br />
사용하는 농경이 이루어졌다는 미국립과학원회보(PNAS)의 논문입니다. 현재까지는<br />
주류 학계에선 가축 퇴비를 이용한 농경은 철기시대 이후에 등장했다고 보고 있습니다.</p>
<p>옥스퍼드대학의 에이미 보가드(Amy Bogaard) 교수가 이끄는 국제 연구팀은 유럽의<br />
13개 고고학 유적지에서 기원전 6천~2천4백년의 밀, 보리, 콩 등 124종 2천5백여<br />
개의 곡식 알갱이를 분석하여 신석기인들이 가축 퇴비를 이용해 농사를 지었음을<br />
규명했습니다.</p>
<p>이들이 분석방법으로 사용한 것은 가축 퇴비에 많이 들어 있는 질소 동위원소(<sup>15</sup>N)<br />
입니다. 고고학 유적에서 발굴된 유골 분석을 통해 그들이 <sup>15</sup>N가 풍부한 음식을<br />
먹은 것으로 밝혀졌는데, 현재까지 주류 학계의 견해는 선사시대 사람들이 육류를<br />
많이 섭취했기 때문으로 해석했습니다.(공장식 축산업을 옹호하는 논리 중 하나로<br />
선사시대 사람들은 현대인들보다 육류를 더 많이 섭취했지만 성인병에 걸리지 않았다<br />
는 주장이 있습니다.)</p>
<p>그러나 에이비 보가드 교수팀의 이번 연구 결과는 선사시대 사람들의 유골에서 확인되는<br />
<sup>15</sup>N 성분은 육류 섭취의 결과가 아니라 가축 분뇨를 퇴비로 사용한 농작물을 많이<br />
섭취한 결과라고 새롭게 해석할 수 있습니다.</p>

<h2>Abstract</h2>
<p id="p-3">The spread of farming from western Asia to Europe had profound long-term social and ecological impacts, but identification of the specific nature of Neolithic land management practices and the dietary contribution of early crops has been problematic. Here, we present previously undescribed stable isotope determinations of charred cereals and pulses from 13 Neolithic sites across Europe (dating <em>ca</em>. 5900–2400 cal B.C.), which show that early farmers used livestock manure and water management to enhance crop yields. Intensive manuring inextricably linked plant cultivation and animal herding and contributed to the remarkable resilience of these combined practices across diverse climatic zones. Critically, our findings suggest that commonly applied paleodietary interpretations of human and herbivore δ<sup>15</sup>N values have systematically underestimated the contribution of crop-derived protein to early farmer diets.</p>
