캐나다 보건당국이 돼지독감 환자 중에서 치료제 타미플루에 내성이 확인된 북미대륙 첫번째 환자가 확인되었다고 발표했다는 소식입니다.

내성 사례는 궤백 주에 사는 60세 남성으로 돼지독감에 감염된 아들로 접총한 후 치료용으로 추천되는 양보다 소량으로 타미플루를 경구복용한 바 있다고 합니다.

만성 기관지염을 앓고 있는 노령의 환자는 타미플루를 투약하고 있던 사이에 이미 돼지독감 바이러스( A(H1N1) virus)에 감염되었던 것으로 추정된다고 합니다.

참고로 돼지독감 환자 중에서 타미플루 내성 사례는 이미 덴마크, 일본, 홍콩에서 공식 확인된 바 있습니다.

First case in Americas of drug-resistant swine flu: reports

MONTREAL (AFP) – Health officials in Canada have identified a case of swine flu that has proved resistant to the antiviral drug Tamiflu, media reports said Wednesday.

The case was detected in a Quebec man in his 60s, who had been taking a smaller-than-recommended dose of the drug before coming in contact with his son, who was ill with the virus, The Journal de Quebec and other local newspapers reported.

The elderly patient, who also suffers from chronic bronchitis, presumably already had become infected with the A(H1N1) virus while taking the Tamiflu medication — which any rate was administered in doses too small to ward off the virus.

Doctors called the revelation “disquieting” proof of the virus’s ability to evolve quickly, and noted a handful of similar drug-resistant swine flu cases that have cropped up elsewhere.

“This would be the first case to our knowledge of Tamiflu resistance in swine fly in North America,” said Guy Boivin, a physician at the Laval University Medical Center in Quebec, noting cases of drug resistance in Denmark, Japan and Hong Kong.

Tamiflu-resistant swine flu patient found in Japan: govt

TOKYO (AFP) – A genetic mutation of swine flu that is resistant to the anti-viral Tamiflu has been discovered in Japan, the first such case in the country, the health ministry said.

It was the second reported case of Tamiflu resistance linked to swine flu in less than a week.

The latest case was found in a patient who had been given the drug since first being diagnosed with A(H1N1) around two weeks ago, Kyodo news agency reported Thursday, citing the Health, Welfare and Labour Ministry.

The patient — a woman in Osaka prefecture — was recovering after having been given Ralenza, an alternative anti-flu medication, the report said.

A spokeswoman for Swiss pharmaceuticals giant Roche, which makes Tamiflu, said the company had been informed of the case and called it “normal.”

“It is absolutely normal,” she said, adding that “0.4 percent of adults develop resistance” to Tamiflu.

She said the case does not indicate Tamiflu has become less effective against swine flu.

Danish authorities announced earlier this week they had discovered resistance to Tamiflu in a female patient. Ralenza was also used successfully to treat her.

According to the latest World Health Organization figures, Japan has 1,266 reported cases of swine flu, but has so far recorded no fatalities.

(도쿄 교도=연합뉴스) 인플루엔자 A[H1N1](신종플루)를 치료하는데 쓰이는 항바이러스제인 타미플루에 내성을 보이는 환자가 일본에서 처음 발견됐다.

   일본 후생노동성의 한 관리는 2일 “타미플루에 내성을 보이는 바이러스가 오사카현의 한 여성 감염자로부터 검출됐다”고 말했다.

   이 여성 환자는 다른 항바이러스제인 렐렌자를 복용한뒤 증세가 호전됐다.

   앞서 덴마크에서 타미플루에 내성을 나타내는 환자가 지난달말 처음 확인됐다.

   이 여성 환자는 신종플루 환자와 직접 접촉한 뒤 예방 차원에서 타미플루를 투여받았으나 결국 감염돼 다른 항바이러스제를 복용한뒤 회복됐다.
